Associate Veterinarian

East Carolina University, Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine

Born and raised in Greenville, NC. Matthew started as a veterinary assistant at 17 while still in high school. He graduated from ECU with a bachelors in Biology. He moved to Blacksburg, VA for 4 years while attending VMCVM. Matthew’s first Visit to Chattanooga was via the Tennessee Aquarium Internship in 2018. He fell in love with the area and found the special gem that is the Mountain Hospital for Animals. Matthew later returned for 4 more externships over the remainder of vet school and joined the Mountain Hospital for Animals on June 1st 2021.

Dr. Whitford has 3 dogs, a cat, a bearded dragon, and many tropical fish. Artemis - Golden retriever (perfect angel), Orion - Golden retriever (dumb dumb), Bandit - Siberian Husky (always grumpy), Butters - Domestic short hair cat (pastry addict), Prime - Bearded dragon (never enough bugs).

Dr. Western is a new graduate from Mississippi State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She was born and raised in Northern New Jersey and completed her undergraduate degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences at Clemson University. She was first introduced to Dr. Keller during her externship at the Tennessee Aquarium and started working at the Mountain Hospital for Animals on August 1st, 2022. Although she loves all creatures great and small, aquatic animals are her favorite. Even though she currently doesn’t have any animals that live with her, that is likely to change in the near future!
